History of the Internet and World Wide Web

The Internet and WWW have grown exponentially over the past few years. What are some of the factors that have led to that rapid growth? Research at least three factors that contributed (or continue to contribute) to the development of the Internet and WWW. Using MS-PowerPoint create a presentation with at least nine slides that details each factor that you have chosen. Incorporate appropriate graphics into your presentation. Also, include a bibliography of sources. Copying word for word from a Web Site is considered plagiarism and will result in a grade of zero. A suggested Organization of Slides is below:
Slide 1: Title of Presentation and Your Name
Slide 2: General Description of Three Factors
Slides 3-4: Factor 1
Slides 5-6: Factor 2
Slides 7-8: Factor 3
Slide 9: Sources

Introduction to Computer Applications and Concepts

Enclosed are the instructions for the assignment:

Part 1: For the document titled “computer history” in this section review the items listed after 1980. Select 5 events that you believe are the most important in the computing history presented, and write 1 paragraph each on why you believe this is so. You will be graded on your reasoning, not on paraphrasing what the document says. If you just repeat what you are reading, you will get very low scores on this section.
Part 2: Based on the material presented inn the Concepts Unit A section of the main textbook, choose one technology talked about in the section. Research it, and present a 4-paragraph (minimum) review of what it is, what it does, and why it is interesting or useful. Once more, if you just paraphrase what is on the book or what you find somewhere else, you will not do well in the assignment. The assignment requires research, not just saying what you believe or comes to your mind when you sit down to work on this. Also, realize that “googling” is not the same as “research”. Choose your sources and material wisely; not everything you see on the Internet is credible or worth it. I will be looking at your sources and their credibility, as well as your ability to present research. You are expected to provide a list of your sources in appropriate APA format. If you don't know what that is, please visit your friendly librarian for help and guidance.

Your work must be typed or word processed

Narration Assignment

ENC 1101: Narration Assignment
Three things to do before you write a single word:
1) read this entire sheet – it's in the NARRATION folder
2) make sure you're set to double space your paper
3) have a good title in mind

Do: give it an awesome title, write a good thesis – make sure it's the last sentence in your intro paragraph, and use figurative language. Read it out loud to your dog before you turn it in.
Don't: write “you,” “your,” “yourself,” or any other form of “you.” Each Y-bomb will cost you a point. Don't call it Essay One. No title = no grade.

Narration means to tell a story. And, for this essay, you are to tell a personal narrative–a personal story. Write about a single moment in your life that lasted less than thirty minutes, maybe an hour at the most. Just make sure to focus on something very specific.

You might choose ONE of these:

Write about a moment when someone made fun of you.
Write about a moment in nature that you will never forget.
Write about a moment that changed your life.
stay away from child birth, anything about cruelty to animals, and anything too personal.
Writing Process:

Use the Plot Diagram tool
Brainstorm, cluster, freewrite–find ideas–don't try to take on too much. Read the other handouts in the NARRATION folder and read about narration on web sites and in textbooks. Remember that focusing is the key to this paper.
Outline. Post your outline, introduction, and thesis to the appropriate Discussion Board. See syllabus for due dates.
Create rough draft. (Use chronological order.) Get feedback.
Revise, proofread, and edit.
Final draft. (Graded)
Purpose:

To learn how to arrange details.
To show an understanding for a designated audience.
To demonstrate narrative and descriptive techniques.
To incorporate dialogue (if appropriate). Remember rules to writing successful dialog: http://www.writing-world.com/fiction/dialogue.shtml
To improve writing skills at ALL stages of the writing process.
