Identify and briefly discuss which countries you consider the current great powers of the world

Research Assignment #2
Identify and briefly discuss which countries you consider the current great powers of the world. Give justifications for your choices. What are their military and economic capabilities? What are some of their current alliances and treaty obligations? Explain their interactions in terms of your preferred theoretical framework (Realism, Constructivism, etc.). Use the CIA World Factbook and other reputable sources of information for comparison.

The papers should be formatted in MLA style. This means that the paper margins are set at 1 inch on all sides. The font type is either Times New Roman or Arial, 12 point size and it is double spaced. When citing outside sources (either through quotes or paraphrased ideas), you must have parenthetical references within the body of the paper and a Works Cited page at the end. Here is an example of an MLA formatted paper that you can use as a template. Here is the MLA Citation Guide from the library for your Works Cited entries.

The final submission must be at least 1500 words. It will be due by November 3 – submitted as an attachment here (you must click on the heading “Research Paper #2” to open the assignment to do this). I will accept .doc and .rtf files. Feel free to exchange rough drafts with classmates via the Messages feature on the left or ask any questions you may have in the Q&A Discussion Board.

Medical Waste

Situation:
You are currently working in your chosen profession (perhaps based upon your major). You notice that your workplace is making some poor or unwise choices regarding either the purchasing or disposal of items particular to your profession. You therefore are creating an argumentative document which explains the issues inherent to the current/problematic practice and offering a solution or alternative approach. Your ultimate goal is to convince your manager to change the purchasing or disposal process at your location (with the hopes that other locations will follow suit).
Task:
Begin with a concise and significant (who cares?) claim which states the problem at hand. Consider what is the context or larger issue at stake (environmental, ethical, educational, health, human freedom, human rights, justice). A claim must be well supported to convince the reader your position is wise, well-conceived and viable. Remember your essay should recognize opposing viewpoints and respectifully address those counterarguments.

Sources:
Two academically credible sources (academic article or book) are required. You may also use credible internet sources (i.e. .edu, .gov). Encyclopedias and Wiki-pages are not permitted (though they may help in your initial research). You are welcome to use more sources as long as they are credible. I will allow one .com site. Sources may be found via Google Scholar, library books, academic journals (search engines like Academic Search Premier, JSTOR, EBSCO or WorldCat). Credible data must be somewhat current (2006 – present) in order to be effective.

Can a person possess more than one type of intelligence at a time? What are the factors that would contribute to a specific type of intelligence

Classification/Division Essay Assignment
Getting Started: For the Classification/Division essay, you will need to pick one of the prompts below and then find three categories that are mutually exclusive and parallel. Remember that in order for your categories to be mutually exclusive, they must not overlap. In order for the points to be parallel, there must be a logical connection between them. Organize your ideas into a defensible thesis, and create an attention grabbing and logically sound introduction. Your conclusion should tie up all of the points of the essay while also relating to your thesis.
Essay Prompts: Choose ONE of the following prompts:
1. Can a person possess more than one type of intelligence at a time? What are the factors that would contribute to a specific type of intelligence? Would there be any factors that could hinder specific intelligences? Is possible for a person to actively seek out ways to enhance a specific type of intelligence? Decide how types of intelligences can be divided and classified.

Important Note: For this paper you will include at least one quote and one paraphrase form the reading source related to the prompt you have chosen. Remember that this is the minimum amount of quoting required for the essay, but you may include more than one quote and paraphrase if it helps support your claims and contributes to the quality of your essay.
Sources: Prompt 1: Isaac Asimov’s essay “What is Intelligence, Anyway?”
Formatting: The essay should be: typed, double spaced throughout, and contain a minimum of 750 words. Please adhere to MLA formatting guidelines: one inch margins throughout, proper heading, a header with your last name and page numbers, a title, and in-text citations with contextualization.
