Estimate the embodied carbon and the footprint from use of telecommunications, data centres, and desktop PCs.
Paper details

Objectives: Estimate the embodied carbon and the footprint from use of telecommunications, data centres, and desktop PCs.
1. Some major organizations have made claims about their greenhouse friendly policies. Collect information from publicly available sources (the Internet, newspapers, business magazines) and analyze one major organization (in three paragraphs). Include references to your sources of information (with links to any web-based information). This analysis should highlight:
• the energy strategy;
• any use of ICT in the strategy; and
• any energy reduction targets.
2. Explain the current status of measurement of ICT Carbon Footprint in your organization (or an organization of your choice) in three paragraphs. Are there measures or targets for CO2e, embodied energy, or energy use for telecommunications, data centres, or desktop PCs?
3. Describe (up to three paragraphs) any greenhouse reduction strategies in your organization (or an organization you are familiar with). Do these involve ICT?

Explain the meaning of the phrase “faith seeking understanding.” How does this principle serve to balance faith and reason?
Question 1 :: SSC
In the Iroquois Origin Story, found in Chapter 1, p. 22, the Sky Woman gives birth to twins.  One twin, “Sapling,” creates all that is good in the world.  The other, “Flint,” creates all that is bad and tries to undermine all that is good.  (You should not have to read this, if so, let me know.  It’s truly about the question below and that’s it.

Do you think all creation stories contain this duality, and do you think it is an attempt to explain the existence of good and evil in this world?  (Consider the Genesis story of Cain and Abel when composing your post. Also, keeping in mind the SLU core value of community, discuss what the existence of these and other origin stories tell us about humanity).

Question 2 :: REL
Explain the meaning of the phrase “faith seeking understanding.”  How does this principle serve to balance faith and reason?

Question 3 :: PHI
1.      A man is falsely accused of a crime and spends fourteen years in a jail. Finally, his accuser is overcome with remorse and admits having lied. When the man is released, he sues the state for wrongful imprisonment and seeks monetary compensation. The courts rule that the state has no legalresponsibility. But does it have the moral responsibility? Why or why not?

What are your thoughts regarding the difference between legality and morality with respect to the case you chose? Do you think that if the action in question is immoral, it thus ought to be illegal, or if morally permissible then it ought to be for this reason legally permissible? Or is the action immoral but nonetheless ought to be legally permissible? Your explanations should have reasons that support them and make use of concrete examples from the Burnor and Raley text.
