The case shall have the following sections: Title, Introduction: Issue and Cause Summarized, Analysis, Decision Criteria, Alternatives, Solution, Justification for Choice of Solution and Not Others, Implications for the Organization, and References.
Issue:
Glen_Burrows_Issue_1_C: What is an important issue that your company is currently facing?
I am Glen Burrows, Asia Regional GM for Dell's OEM Embedded Computing Business. We had a software customer come to us recently looking to expand its market. Here was their challenge. As a software solutions company. They had expertise here in the Asia region around storage management and wanted to expand their business but did not have the expertise in house to develop solutions where their software would go on a hardware as a bundled device and that bundle sold into the market as an appliance. The question that they brought to us was what should they do? How should they develop this?

Cause:

Glen_Burrows_Cause_1_C: What cause this issue to arise and why is it important?
This is important for a firm selling software-based solutions for a couple of reasons.First, there is a natural opportunity to expand their revenue if they can make a bundled solution. Arguably they would have a lot of their same customers that already buy the software from them, looking to buy the complete solution as a bundled opportunity to get the same value from the software but done in a more seamless way. So all they have to do is buy the hardware, plug it in and be ready to go. Secondarily, it matches the competitive nature of the industry. If you are a software only company and you are trying to sell your solution as a software against firms that offer software solutions and bundled hardware and software solutions, you don't have the same opportunities as your competitors do. It does not make for a like for like comparison. Two reasons than, competitive reasons and also the natural growth that could come from expanding their product portfolio.

*  About Decision Criteria

An important aspect of the case analysis process is providing a justification for the choice of alternative solutions as well as connecting

Defining ‘Decision Criteria’
Decision criteria for multimedia teaching cases can be defined in numerous ways. These include:
·         Guidelines by which to judge the alternatives
·         How to decide which is the best solution among the alternatives
·         How uncertainty and doubt are reduced so that a reasonable choice can be made among alternatives
·         A standard, rule, or test on which a judgment or decision can be based.
·         The basis for comparison among alternatives
·         The ideal in terms of which something can be judged
·         Specific measures used to determine the best choice among alternatives
·         A gauge, norm or yardstick
Generating  Selection  Criteria:

Generating a list of expected benefits that would be achieved by resolving the issue at hand is one way to create selection criteria.   The expected benefits are then grouped based on underlying themes.

Common Qualitative and Quantitative Examples of Decision Criteria:

Qualitative:competitive advantage, customer satisfaction, employee morale, corporate image, ease of implementation, synergy, ethics, visibility, safety, visual appeal, obsolescence, cultural sensitivity, motivation, goodwill, environmental  impact, flexibility, within present resources and capabilities, consistent with corporate strategy , successful, efficient, new, coherent.

Quantitative:profit, cost, return on investment, market share, capacity, delivery time, risk, cash flow, inventory turnover, productivity, staff turnover, quality, growth rate quantity

Key decision criteria should be:
·         Important to the organization making the decision
·         Brief, preferably in point form
·         Measurable, at least to the point of comparison, such as alternative A will reduce expenses more that alternative B
·         Be related to the issue  and alternatives

You will be evaluated on your ability to encourage student participation in all facets of your presentation. You should plan to give background on the evolution of the model and contributing scholars to the models development. You will be expected to highlight key concepts, terms and definitions. You should provide a hardcopy executive briefing on the model to the class. The summary should enable your classmates to understand the model and serve as a study guide.

Executive Briefing
Students will be responsible for creating a one-page (usually double sided) executive briefing on an assigned leadership theory. The briefing should include an overview and key points of the theory, strengths and weaknesses, and 1-2 examples related to the application of the theory within engineering. One should be able to read the executive briefing and have a very good summary and understanding of the leadership theory. Your executive briefing should not simply be a recreation of the content of your PowerPoint presentation; rather it should be a clear, concise summary of the leadership theory/model.
