Work-life balance: Are the blurring lines a growing problem or a new reality

Work-life balance: Are the blurring lines a growing problem or a new reality?

I.                   Introduction

Since the mid 1990’s there has been a drastic increase in the number of American employees that work from a remote office in full or part time capacity. While this has a large potential to benefit companies in a variety of ways; there have been a number of other issues caused by this practice. Some of these would include finding a balance between work and home and a loss of positive feelings of job stability. While remote office workers or telecommuters are becoming more attentive and productive when it comes to work related activities; their home lives and family relationships are suffering in a way having never been seen before in American history.

II.                The Introduction of Telecommuting into the American Workplace

A.                Government Initiatives in the 1970-80

B.                  The Clean Air Act of 1990 and 1996 amendments

A.                 AT&T and the collaborative efforts of various Government Agencies

III.             The Typical Remote Office Experience

A.                Advantages for employers to promote telecommuting

1.                  Cost saving due to a reduction in required office space

2.                  Increased productivity from a reduction in work related distractions

3.                  Increased applicant pool since you don't need to be in the same city

B.                 Disadvantages for employers that come with telecommuting

1.                  Lack of oversight

2.                  Diminished productivity due to poor time management of employees

3.                  Erosion of company culture and morale

4.                  Loss of “brainstorming” ability

C.                Advantages from an employee’s perspective

1.                  Reduced transportation expenses and time

2.                  The ability to concentrate on work related tasks with a reduction in distractions

3.                  More flexibility

D.                Disadvantages employee

1.                  Lack of connectivity or social interaction with fellow workers

2.                  Potential lack of direction from supervisor

3.                  Feeling of relevance to employer leading to feelings of job instability

4.                  Blurring the lines between work and home

Click here for more on this paper…….

IV.             The unforeseen side effects of Telecommuting on the home

A.                Technology causing a blurring line between work and home

B.                 Sharing of attention given to family member while in the home

C.                Children having a different parent-child relationship that ever experienced

D.                Overall dependence on electronics and technology

E.                 Employers increased expectation for the employee to respond quickly or always be available

V.                Conclusion

Telecommuting provides many advantages and disadvantages that affect individual workers, work groups, organizations, and society as a whole.  There needs to be careful consideration prior to deciding if this is the appropriate solution for the employer or the employee. Organizations that promote telecommuting should make efforts to develop programs and procedures that ultimately lead to increased job performance and reasonable employee expectations.  Advances in technology have made telecommuting more attractive and affordable for organizations. Despite these advances, some individuals and organizations still oppose telecommuting, because of telecommuting’s perceived and proven negative consequences. There needs to be a more concerted effort on behalf of the working family to find ways to promote a balanced remote office environment that leads to both positive work performance and a healthy home life, free of the perceived expectation of extended hours and instant responses.

Application: Applying Ethical Decision-Making Models to Guerrilla Government

Application: Applying Ethical Decision-Making Models to Guerrilla Government

As mentioned in previous weeks, Cooper’s ethical decision-making model and Waldo’s Map of Ethical Obligations assist responsible public administrators in assessing and addressing the ethical dilemmas that they will confront during their careers. Public administrators must consider all underlying factors of a dilemma and the potential solutions in order to ensure the most proper outcome. Sometimes the chosen outcome may involve actions that serve to work against the wishes of superiors in the organization.

For this Assignment, review the case study in the text, “Guerrilla Government in EPA’s Seattle Regional Office.” Identify an ethical issue within this case study. Consider the competing obligations and responsibilities that these individuals faced and how they determined whether their actions were right. Also, think about the impact of guerrilla government on the political appointees, organization, and public policy.

The Assignment (3–4 pages in APA format): Your paper should include the following:
* A description of the ethical issue you identified in the “Guerrilla Government in EPA’s Seattle Regional Office” case study

* A description of the issues the political appointees faced in this case and an explanation of federal ethics law violations

* An explanation of why you think the career employees were motivated to use guerrilla tactics as a solution despite the risks to their careers (e.g., competing obligations) and whether their choice of guerrilla action was ethical

* An explanation of how these actions affected the organization and public policy

* A description of the actions leaders within the EPA might have taken to manage guerrilla government and an explanation of how those actions might have changed the outcome of the situation

* An evaluation of the potential lessons for public administrators and the importance of these lessons

Note: If you are more familiar with life in a nation outside of the United States, explain the potential lessons for public administrators in that nation.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all of the resources that you used, including the references in the textbook and other course readings.

Your Assignment must demonstrate both breadth and depth of knowledge and critical thinking appropriate to graduate-level scholarship. It must follow APA Publication Manual guidelines and be free of typographical, spelling, and grammatical errors. The assignment should be 3–4 pages in length (double-spaced), not including the title page, abstract, and references.

Law

Well, thanks for taking your time to read this. I am writer here at essayshark but to avoid victimization, I will refrain from identifying myself. So straight to the point! We need to strike starting next Monday 7th to wed 9th in the evening. Let’s face it, the new system among other issues is indeed unfair to us as writers and our customers as well. Let me highlight some of the facts about the new system that justifies my case.
Fact #1, you have to stare at the screen for a single order until the countdown is over which in real sense takes a lot of time especially considering the fact that many customers include attachments hence causing the countdown to take even longer.
Fact #2 we can no longer multi-task like we used to! Imagine a scenario whereby you have to chat with one of your customers or probably move to a different tab like say your email or facebook or a site you were conducting a research. Guess what? You will find the countdown paused waiting for you to come back before it continues!! Just try it out and prove it yourself. If you leave the countdown at 45 sec, you will find it at 45 sec unless the order is taken or maybe at 40 sec just in case you left when it was about to turn.
Fact #3 This is the most hurting and humiliating! Now assuming you are patient and place your bid. Let’s say the countdown is 120 sec. now you look at the screen and patiently wait for the countdown to finish only to see the screen refreshing when 5 sec are remaining to mean the order is taken and you have to look for another one. This is indeed annoying!
In addition to the above grievances, I am anticipating that soon we will have no jobs since many customers will run away! Why? This is because many orders do not count the references page, abstract, and the title page. Now, apparently the system counts even the references page! I know to some this seems a good idea but put yourself in the customer’s shoes, do you think they are willing to pay that much? Furthermore, how are they even able to determine how many pages ought to be written? Or does it mean we will start inconveniencing them everytime to place a new order since more text (references) is needed? Or will you write 8 pages plus 2 references pages when you are asked to write a ten page order only to frustrate the customer and make them rate you badly and further run away?
Fellow writers, it is a high time we come together for once and force the administration to think reasonably!! It is unfair to all of us and we are also incurring expenses in terms of internet connectivity and time as well! Funny enough, it appears our opinions do not count and even the surveys we fill at the end of every peak season do not make any sense to them!
Finally, the administration should consider firing some of the support team! Some of them do not understand their work and all they can do is fine, threaten and humiliate writers!! Funny enough there is no room for dialogue and they are always “RIGHT”
Therefore writers, I am kindly asking you to go on strike as from next Monday to Wed evening. Let us fight for our rights and the restoration of sanity. Please don’t be tempted to bid for any orders on that day. 3 days will not make you poor! In any case we are fighting for a long-term solution. But if you feel the new system is ok for you, then you can go ahead and bid. I have been working here for close to two years and I feel the pain! How about new writers who are in-experienced? Please please, let’s join hands in this noble cause.

The Introduction of game species to New Zealand and the Societal effects of this

Aim of the Investigation:

During the course of this research I will uncover the secrets of New Zealand early social history with a specific focus on how the introduction of foreign species of game animals impacted the society. The introduction of species into any environment will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the environment itself (by environment I mean flora+fauna) and through this research I will also attempt to discover the extent that this has had an impact. I will do this through researching how effective their management has been from the first introduction right through to present day. The laws and policies have an enormous effect on the actions that have been taken with regard to their management. These laws have also been largely influenced by societal standpoint at the time of their creation. I will therefore also study the how the legal and societal aspects have an effect on the management of game in New Zealand.

Focussing Questions:

1: How has environmental change (policy and direct effect) that has taken place in New Zealand changed the way species have been managed from the time of their introduction to present day?

2: How have the laws and policies surrounding and protecting game within New Zealand had an effect on the societal views and actions surrounding the hunting of game?

Please do not exceed 2000 words but I would like more than 1500 words. I am looking for a paper which is original. Must be footnoted and have comments about reliability of sources used throughout. This paper must be written to a high standard (able to pass first year university requirements).
