Just because we do something often, does not mean that we do it as well as we could or should. Take verbal and nonverbal communication for instance. Every day, professionals make little mistakes or reinforce speaking habits that detract from their overall credibility. For this assignment, you will take a first step toward improving your communication skills by paying careful attention to how you create the verbal and nonverbal messages you send.
The oral self-critique assignment comprises THREE KEY PARTS detailed below. The paper will include a transcription of your recording along with 4-5 pages of critical reflection (see the description below for specifics).
1. View your recording on SpeechConnect .
Go to SpeechConnect and access the recording you made in the Getting Started Learning Unit explaining your ideas about communication in business environments (recording entitled “Getting Started Recording”).
2. Transcribe your recording.
The transcription is a verbatim (word for word) record of your voice as you talk about your understanding of communication in business environments. “Verbatim” means that it should include “like every umm and tangent, you know.” Please note that transcription is a time consuming process. Although you will be transcribing only about two minutes of talk, it may take you up to a half hour to transcribe. Transcripts will be spot checked against original
recordings. Your transcription is Part 1 of this assignment and should be included in the Microsoft Word document you turn in containing all elements of the assignment.
2. Read and reflect on your speech patterns.
Consider the readings and lectures to this point in the class. How do they inform what you are noticing in your own speech? Start by considering your communicative patterns. Are there particular disfluencies, fillers, or expressions that you use too much? Do you go off on tangents? Do you talk too fast? Most importantly, do you sound as intelligent and articulate as you would like? Next, consider your communicative tendencies. Does your speech seem
more masculine or more feminine (and how do you know)? What other concepts from your reading and from your lectures are useful in analyzing your casual speech? Be sure to explain how these concepts can be applied to your own speaking patterns. Further, consider what implications these have on your ability to be effective as a communicator in the business environment. This reflection will be included in your Microsoft Word document as Part 2 of your critique and should be approximately 3 double-spaced pages.
3. Choose one bad habit and, using course concepts, explain how and why you will work to improve it to be more effective in a professional environment it.
For example, if you decide that you want to work on saying “you know” less, pay careful attention and try to catch yourself every time you say it. Or, if you feel you need to adjust the power of your speech, you might consider how you might make your speech more or less powerful. This will be included as Part 3 of your critique and should be 1 double-spaced page.

Beowulf and the monster-cycle
Bonjour, I'm looking for someone willing to write a 2-3 page paper within the next 5-6 hours? I'll be able to pay for the paper this upcoming Friday, but the paper I have to write is due tomorrow morning and I'm not feeling too well. I'm new to this type of service, and hopefully someone may be able to type the product first with faith that I will pay later in the week. If you don't feel comfortable taking up on my offer, it's fine as I would be skeptical as well. If interested, you may give me a shout out at [email protected] I'll be able to give more directions on email. It's a simple essay regarding “Beowulf” and the monster-cycle (there are three monsters in the story and you will relate to them all for the thesis you're trying to prove). Please, only email if you can write good paper. Take care everyone and godbless.
