Marijuana legalization

Write a 1400 word paper in MLA style, with works cited if necessary, which argues a position either about some kind of marijuana legalization.

The writing assignment is to take a position, and logically to support and cogently to defend that position.

Marijuana links:

Questions: “Does marijuana have medicinal value? Are the resulting premises based on value or fact?”
http://www.justice.gov/dea/druginfo/ds.shtml

Question: “How does hemp significantly differ from marijuana?”
http://hempethics.weebly.com/industrial-hemp-vs-cannabis.html

Question: “What would be the political, economic, and social consequences of legalizing recreational marijuana?”

Question: “What would be the economic, political, and social consequences of legalizing industrial hemp?”

Assignment Summary:

Read a bit in the links provided, then decide which of the two areas you will address.
Go back into the chosen subject and find out the features of a position you might take.
Make a list.
You only have 1400 words, so the more specific about your position, the easier it will be to keep the piece down to 1400 words.
Eliminate weak or uninteresting premises
If you use sources, cite them MLA style.
In short: decide your position, state it clearly, list your premises, explore any objections, develop counters, and then pound out the argument. There is no wrong position—only weakly supported ones.

Criminal Law for Criminal Justice
The concepts of mens rea and actus reus of crime are essential in criminal law. Consider each of the following scenarios and discuss whether both the actus reus and mens rea are present such that a criminal charge may be proven:

(1) Tony is shopping at a book store when he runs into an old teacher from college. The two decide to leave the store to grab a bite to each. Tony forgets about the book he was holding under his arm when his old teacher approached, as he was deciding whether to buy it. He walks out of the store with it under his arm. Potential charge: Theft

(2) In line to buy tickets for concert, a friend asked Morgan to hold her purse while she went to the bathroom. Shortly thereafter, a drug sniff dog on the grounds that day stopped in front of Morgan and alerted on the purse she was holding for her friend. The police perform a search of the purse and find drugs. Potential charge: Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance

(3) Jim lost his temper in a retail store one evening and was charged with assault on a store clerk. Because he felt that an item offered for sale was priced too high, he slammed his fist down on a display table, sending a metal sign flying off, hitting the store clerk who was standing close by, cutting her cheek just below the eye. Potential charge: Assault

Compare and contrast “The Road Not Taken” and “I Used to Live Here Once

compare and contrast “The Road Not Taken” and “I Used to Live Here Once”.

Write an eight- to ten-page paper, in which you compare and contrast two literary works from this course that share the same theme (using the “Themes & Corresponding Works” list, below, as a guide).

The paper should be organized around your thesis (argument), which is the main point of the entire essay. When developing a thesis for a comparative paper, consider how a comparison of the works provides deeper insight into the topic of your paper (i.e., think about why you have chosen to look at these particular works in relation to one another). In your analysis, consider the relationships among the following elements:
Content
Form (e.g., short story vs. poem)
Style

Final Paper

Your Final Paper should include a problem statement or description of the social problem you have selected, a discussion of the scope and consequences of the problem, and an assessment of society’s responses to the problem (including public policies and other less formal responses). Papers should also present a clearly reasoned alternative that is supported by scholarly research.
While the following example can be modified to suit your needs, using this outline as a guide will likely result in a high quality final paper:
1.Title
2.Describe the social problem.
3.Explain why this problem qualifies as a social problem.
4.Indicate the sociological theory or theories that may explain this social problem.
5.Discuss the individual and social implications of this problem. Your discussion of implications should be supported by accurate research data.
6.Summarize what social science experts have to say about this social problem. Are their conclusions methodologically sound?
7.Explain what we, as a society, have done about this problem, considering public policies and other less formal responses.
8.Explain how well societal efforts to solve the social problem are working.
9.Describe an alternative.
10.Discuss why the alternative is, or can be, an effective response to the problem. Remember to consider negative consequences of the alternative response.
11.Conclude with reflections and thoughts about your chosen social problem.
12.References

e.In graduate work, the use of peer-reviewed journal articles (journal articles reviewed by recognized experts in the relevant field of study) is required.
f.Educational and government websites (those ending with a web URL suffix of .edu or .gov) may be appropriate in some cases but should be evaluated carefully.
