Infection control and mrsa

4000 words I will attach the information provided by the university as instructions.
Infection control and MRSA

Introduction:
This essay will include information on infection control and MRSA, it will explain the importance of the subtopic which is MRSA and also explain the themes of the essay which are, what is MRSA, how is MRSA commonly spread, who is most susceptible to MRSA, MRSA in the elderly, how to prevent MRSA and hand hygiene. Infection control is an important subject within all clinical setting as it prevents service users, whom already have diseases and wounds, worse than they were before they used the health care service. It is extremely important that all healthcare professionals provide safe, quality care, including basic infection control practices. (Duval.L 2010) MRSA is an equally important topic as it is a serious disease that can be prevented so easily and can be spread in so many ways
GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING AND STRUCTURING THE ESSAY – MOD001902.
Before you start writing you need to: 1. Choose one of the 5 main topics. 2. Decide on a subtopic which interests you and relates to the main topic. 3. Search the literature during which you should find a large number of journal articles (literature reviews and research papers), books, policies, websites, leaflets, newspaper articles etc. 4. Read the literature and identify common themes within the literature. 5. Read more literature about these themes.
INTRODUCTION In this you need to identify the topic, the subtopic, why the subject chosen is important (not from a personal point of view), what themes will be covered, and the 5 research terms.
LITERATURE SEARCHING PROCESS In this you will need to include the databases used, the key words, any filter options you use such as date, language, country of origin and the number of hits at each stage of the searching process.  You also need to identify how you found ‘non-journal’ sources you use such as books, leaflets, policies.
MAIN BODY (please see notes on next page for more information about content). This section needs to be split into smaller sections based on the topic/subtopic NOT the research papers/terms. Section One: General discussion on chosen main topic. Section Two: General discussion on subtopic. Section Three: Focused discussion on how main topic and subtopic are linked and at the end identify themes. Section Four onwards: Focused discussion on identified themes.  Each theme should be addressed separately and linked to the main topic/subtopic when needed.
An example (Pain Management for Surgical Patients – unrelated to this essay) is: Section One: Pain – what is pain, what happens in the body, types of pain, theories related to pain. Section Two: Surgery – what happens in surgery to cause pain, what type of pain is it. Section Three: Post-operative pain – theory about post-operative pain, how long should it last, what happens to patients who are in pain (e.g. lack of mobilising, decreased appetite), reasons why is it important to manage pain effective.
From this you identify important themes for further discussion.  Following sections in this example could include pain assessment, nurse knowledge of pain, patient education, pain specialist team, pain management pharmacological, pain management non-pharmacological.
CONCLUSION Summarise the main points of the essay.  Think about each section you have written about and try and summarise the important bits into one or two sentences and highlight what this means in relation to other points and nursing practice/patient care.

WHAT DO YOU PUT IN THE MAIN BODY?
As stated on the previous page, the main body should focus on your chosen topic and subtopic.
You have three requirements of this essay which MUST be included in order to achieve a pass.
These are: Demonstrate an understanding of the chosen topic in relation to the theory you have discovered by presenting a wide and varied range of contemporary literature to support your content.
Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of the chosen topic/theory on clinical practice.
Demonstrate an understanding of the research process by including at least 5 primary research articles within your supporting literature and discuss a different research term from within each one.  Research terms to be used: Qualitative, Quantitative, Sample, Data Collection, Ethical Considerations.
Demonstrate an understanding of the chosen topic in relation to the theory you have discovered by presenting a wide and varied range of contemporary l iterature to support your content.
1. You need to be able to write about your topic in some depth and with accuracy (this is what demonstrate an understanding means).  To do this you need to identify relevant themes to talk about.  It is better to write more about fewer themes, than to write a little about many themes.  This will allow you to really look into each one and write about everything you find out.
2. Once you know what you wish to write about, you must find a lot (this is what wide means) of supporting literature to back up what you say.  Literature includes books, leaflets, policies, practice guidelines, literature reviews and research papers (this is what varied means).
3. The literature should not be too old (this is what contemporary means).  Ideally you should be looking at no older than 5 years if it is related to something we do in practice.  If you can’t find much up to 5 years, then 10 years would be acceptable.  Anything older should only by ‘classic text’ e.g. something that is old but still referred to today and therefore still relevant.
DN130013S Research and Study Skills        Page 23 23/12/2013
Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of the chosen topic/theory on clinical practice.
1. When you write about what the theory says about your topic, you need to apply this to practice to show that you understand the impact.
2. To do this you must consider the following:
What should happen? – what does the literature say about the topic, the care that patients should receive or the practice that nurses should do e.g. All patients should have an assessment on admission.
What actually happens? – what does the literature say about the topic, the care that patients actually receive or the practice that nurse actually do e.g. Only 58% of patients have an assessment on admission.
Why does it happen? – Do they match or not? If they don’t match (this is the theory/practice gap) why is that?  What does the literature say are the reasons e.g. why are 42% of patients not being assessed.  Are the reasons given valid?
What are the implications for patient care and/or nursing practice – having looked at the above, how does it affect patients and/or nurses e.g. some of the 42% of patients could be at risk and it is never identified which could result in a patient being harmed or becoming more unwell, or even dying.  Where do nurses stand professionally if they don’t do what they are meant to do.
Demonstrate an understanding of the research process by including at least 5 primary research articles within your supporting literature and discuss a different resear ch term from within each one.  Research terms to be used: Qualitative, Quantitative, Sample, Data Collection, Ethical Considerations.
1. You will automatically start to find primary research when you are searching for ALL of your literature.  We ask that you include at least 5 but you may find more.  They should NOT be the focus of the essay, but simply support your discussion in exactly the same way as the other literature does.
2. When you mention a research paper DO NOT describe it.  You are using it like all the other literature e.g. what does it say in the findings?
3. Having mentioned it, identify ONE research term to link to it and describe that theme with support literature (e.g. a research theory book).  You are required to include more than a definition (demonstrate an understanding).  If you can, compare the theory of the research term (what you have just described) to the research paper (think of it in the same way as the practice above – does the research theory match what the research paper did?)

UNDERSTANDING A RESEARCH PAPER.
YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE THE FOLLOWING INTO CLASS:
1.
Copy of the Article “Student perceptions of support in practice” which can be found on VLE.
2.
Copy of the questionnaire (you can start this prior to the session if you wish).
This session is designed to help you ascertain whether evidence (research) you read is carried out correctly, utilising methods which are correct and sound, and whether it would be appropriate to use as evidence within an essay.
You will use a ready prepared framework to understand a chosen article.
You will have already had some lectures and group work sessions on research theory but may not have covered every aspect when this session is delivered. These will have given you a basic grounding to understanding the article provided but further guidance will be required from your tutor.
You will divide into your smaller groups and:  Discuss the article.  Fill in the framework (below)  Discuss any issues/questions.
This exercise may lead to other questions related to general research

Essay 2: Television, Programming

Essay 2: Television, Programming

Compare and Contrast Essay. 100 points
Important Exam Information:
Place the slide/image information on top of your essay- in the same structure of a slide test. Use your lecture notes and text book –No internet research! Bring a Large Green Exam Book and do not write your name or any information on it before class.
Your midterm essay is provided THREE weeks in advance so, that you may prepare for it, just as you would for a term paper; you must thoroughly learn the subject before the exam, and then write the essay in a blue book during the exam without notes. Use only your text, lecture notes, and class videos for essay research.
Select and write on one essay from the following three topics by selecting two works of art from your text book to support your compare and contrast essay:
Essay 1: Early 20th Century Avant-Garde, Modernity, “Social Realism,” and “Art for Art sake” The Avant-Garde art of the early 20th century continued with many of the basic values established in late 19th century. The artist, Gustave Colbert is viewed as the father of French Realism. His art centered on painting social protest statements that evolved into “Social Realism” by the early 20th century. Modern “Social Realist” artists used their art to address the gritty social and economic realities at the early 20th century. Many European artists celebrated freedom of aesthetic plasticity where cerebral innovation and originality was applauded. The French Fauvists celebrated the “Joy of Life” and moved towards the belief that the pursuit of aesthetic pleasure is the chief good/aim in life. Therefore the Fauvist artists created “Art for Art's Sake” that was founded solely on the formal, elements i.e., space, line, color, etc. Compare and contrast one artist working within the “Social Realist” style to one French Fauvist artist, discussing the artistic and content differences. Be specific. An Example of the kind of compare and contrast you can attempt: The “Social Realist” artist Diego Rivera’s “Man at the Crossroads” to the French Fauvist artist Matisse’s “Madame Matisse”

Essay 2: Television, Programming, Dr. Brown asserts that our television programming is composed of three main filters (home, personality, and drama). These three television filters are also operating within the World Wide Web. The widespread use of the Internet provides the opportunity to practice Mass Media advertising by people who have little or no formal education or training. Compare and contrast one traditional Western museum art piece (covered in lecture/text book) to a Contemporary Mass Media image. Formally compare how both images are linked; talk about the Western manufactured cultural experience tied to the commercial ad advertising revenue.
For example you can write on the Mass Media similarities and cultural/historical differences between the Apollo from Ancient Greece, the David by Michelangelo, the Marlboro man, and the myth of the autonomous individual. Please provide number of the text page and or attach the hardcopy and place in Green book.
Essay 3. Late 20th Century: The Avant-Garde, Postmodernism, (Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Obnoxious Liberals” to Betye Saar’s “The Liberation of Aunt Jemima.”) In the 1960s many people were forced to rethink unexamined beliefs and values that coincided with the cultural and aesthetic configuration of Postmodernism. Postmodern art rejected illusionism and exported further into the artistic medium's properties. Many artists dealt with issues of gender, race/ethnicity, and social status and some specifically dealt with the mass media. Compare and contrast the Post Modern art styles/careers of: A. Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Obnoxious Liberals” to Betye Saar’s “The Liberation of Aunt Jemima.” What similarities do these works have? How are the theories behind the art similar or different? What similarities do these works have? How are the theories behind the art similar or different?
